INTRO: Music, Lyrics, & Life Review

WORD UP! NEWS

INTRO is one of the most underrated groups of the 90s. When you think of the great 90’s R&B groups, they definitely deserve one of the top spots. Talent, vocals, lyricism, appeal, chart-topping hits they had it all. So why aren’t we talking about them more? Why hasn’t their story been told numerous times like the others? Well for one, Intro has relatively slid under the radar. Yes, they’ve had the chart-topping hits and garnered commercial success, but with so many groups during that time, it’s easy to get lost in the land of color-coordinated outfits, dance routines, and pelvic thrusts. However, there’s something to be said about a group that has gone through so much and still continued to push forward. Intro are not only overdue for their flowers but deserving of so much more.

A few months ago, I had the amazing pleasure to view the group’s upcoming documentary INTRO: Music, Lyrics, & Life. This gave me a greater appreciation for the group overall. It is an amazing celebration of the group’s life, legacy, and of course the music. It’s one thing to hear others tell your origin story, but when it comes from the members themselves it’s held to a higher standard. This documentary details everything from how the group met, to the challenges they’ve faced, and the untimely passing of lead singer Kenny Greene. If you’re an INTRO fan, then it is something that you must see. If you’re a fan of music, then you’ll appreciate the behind-the-scenes look at the group’s process of creating their songs. You’ll see how incredibly talented Kenny Greene was in his writing abilities and how Jeff and Buddy brought things together on the production side. The stories behind the songs are one for the books, without giving too much away, I’ll say that if you ever wanted to know what happened in the studio during the creation of one of their sexiest songs, then you’re in for a treat!

What I liked most about this documentary is that you’ll get to experience their brotherhood. As with all groups, there are challenges that each member faces and so there’s bound to be some type of drama, but with INTRO it’s different. Their ability to be resilient even in the toughest of times is the epitome of professionalism, respect, and genuine love they have for one another. Even after Kenny Greene’s passing, Buddy and Jeff continue to celebrate not only Greene’s legacy but their own. It just goes to show that when music is created from the heart, it truly stands the test of time. When this documentary is released, I hope that music lovers finally recognize INTRO for their contribution to the greatest music era of all time.

Be sure to tune in to their documentary INTRO: Music, Lyrics, & Life when it is released in June. It’s something you don’t want to miss.
