The Preacher’s Wife Movie Review

WORD UP! NEWS

As the winter weather finally begins to settle in, there’s nothing better than staying indoors and getting in the holiday spirit. If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a long list of holiday movies sure to keep your jingle bells ringing all December long. While there are so many movies that have stood the test of time, one movie in particular always rises to the top of my list. That movie is The Preacher’s Wife. What I love most about this movie is that not only does it have an incredible cast, but I love the fact that the movie is told from a child’s point of view.

The Preacher’s Wife stars Whitney Houston, Courtney B. Vance, and Denzel Washington. When Reverend Biggs (Vance) starts to go through a lot of trials and tribulations in his personal and professional life, he sends a prayer to God asking for help. Little does he know that the help he receives will be in the form of a handsome, charming, and slightly annoying angel named Dudley (Washington). The preacher too busy occupied with his own matters, pawns Dudley (keeping his identity a secret of course) off on his wife Julia (Houston), thus creating more strain in their already rocky marriage. When sparks begin to fly between Dudley and Julia, the preacher must learn to prioritize what is truly important to him. This is a fun-filled family movie that is perfect for the holidays. You’ll get to see Denzel Washington in a more light-hearted comedic role, Whitney Houston bringing down the house with her impeccable voice, and an amazing supporting cast that includes Jenifer Lewis, Loretta Devine, and the late Gregory Hines. There are also so many hidden gems and teachable moments, that everyone can learn from.

So if you’re in the holiday spirit and want to watch something that the whole family will love, look no further because The Preacher’s Wife will give you all you’re looking for and more. Cozy on up, grab some hot chocolate, and enjoy!
