Friday (1995) Movie Review

WORD UP! NEWS

Jelisa is a lover of all music, but 90's R&B has a special place in her heart. She considers the 90's a groundbreaking era for black entertainment that should be celebrated more. "Music is my love language and movies are my mistress."

Movie Review • You would never know that Director F. Gary Gray shot Friday in 20 days on the street where he grew up, given the quality he gave viewers. His childhood home can actually be seen in the background when Deebo punches Red for asking for his bike back.

Regardless, Smokey had every man questioning any woman who said she looked like Janet Jackson over the phone in this classic comedy. Friday is one of those movies where if someone says “they’ve never seen it before” there will be a chorus of black gasp. Any black person who has never seen Friday will easily be EXILED from the black community.

Tapping in Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, Nia Long, & the late great John Witherspoon, Friday is the movie that people watch every time it airs and will recite it word for word and laugh like it’s their first time watching. A lot of people call this one a hood classic, but I consider it a CLASSIC! “And you know this MAN!”

  1. I absolutely love the movie Friday. It’s absolutely a classic. It’s one of those feel good movies. You could be having a bad day but, when you turn on Friday, you find yourself laughing hysterically. If I could give it more Slates, I would lol.
