Movie Review • There are some that aren’t fans of House Party 3, and I am not one of them. Of the 3 that we acknowledge, the 3rd is my second favorite. We all know nothing can top the original! With a star-studded line-up with Bernie Mac, TLC, Chris Tucker, Immature & more, House Party 3 has a special place in my heart.
This used to be my favorite House Party movie as a kid solely based on TLC being in it. I would literally watch it non-stop memorizing all their lines & mannerisms. When they finally perform at the end, Lefteye took that song & made it her own. Originally that verse was for her feature on MC Lyte’s “Ruffneck” but Pebbles wanted a higher percentage of royalties so it never happened. A record with Lyte & Lefteye would have been epic & Pebbles fumbled that bag, especially since “Ruffneck” is my favorite Lyte song.
We all know who the real star of the movie was…THE Bernie Mac! There were so many unforgettable quotes but my two favorites were “I even remember your name, they used to call you jawbone!” The quote you will catch me randomly using is “People who don’t like ya for being yourself… F*CK ‘EM! F*CK ‘EM against the wall, with handcuffs on and crazy glue on their lips!” LMAO! Bernie Mac’s delivery is why he is a legendary comedian. Another comedian that made his debut was Chris Tucker. He didn’t have a huge role but his scenes were memorable & his movie career took off after this film.
I think the storyline of this House Party took everyone by surprise since Kid didn’t end up with Sydney. I was happy to see her make the small cameo & Veda showing her respect regardless of the rumors she heard about her. Kid still being the respectful & 1 woman guy that he was in the first House Party was nice to see. He let Play have that player life because Play always lived up to that name. In my opinion, I would have liked to see Kid & Sydney end up together but all good things must come to an end.
Overall, I still consider this a great movie. It should have been the last one but some producers & directors obviously love wasting money because that’s exactly what they did after making multiple House Party movies after this one. Kid N Play should have figured out a way to put a stop to it because anything after 3 was completely worthless.Â
