Movie Review • “Am I my brother’s keeper” can be heard around the world when you mention New Jack City. This is another movie that brought in some heavy hitters like Wesley Snipes, Allen Payne, Mario Van Peebles, Ice-T, Chris Rock, and many others.

Producers Doug McHenry & George Jackson really showed us how the crack epidemic hit hard in New York during the late 80’s. Some may not know this, but the movie was loosely based off the Arkansas natives The Chamber Brothers, a gang that ruled Detroit in the 80’s. Nino turning an entire apartment complex into a narcotics territory is exactly what The Chamber Brother’s did in Detroit. So, to know that the movie is loosely based off a real life gang makes it more memorable.

New Jack City is one of those movies that after you watch it, they make you feel like you a whole thug out here in these streets, and YOU NOT! You better sit yo $5 a** down before the streets make change!
