Jelisa is a lover of all music, but 90's R&B has a special place in her heart. She considers the 90's a groundbreaking era for black entertainment that should be celebrated more. "Music is my love language and movies are my mistress."

Music Review • I’m mad it took 30 years for the world to realize just how much of a vocal beast Chanté Moore is. Vocally she’s in my top 10 under 90’s vocalist & she AIN’T number 7-10! The Soul Train Awards is my favorite award show because it showcases real R&B artist & with them celebrating the 30th anniversary of Precious, it was only right to give my girl her flowers this week.

The debut single “Love’s Taken Over” will literally take you over! When you listen to it, it feels like the love of your life has their arms wrapped around you as you all dance the night away. One of my favorite things about Chanté’s music is how she always has the perfect blend of jazz & R&B & that’s exactly what she gave with “Love’s Taken Over.” The 2nd single “It’s Alright” intro always reminds me of the piano intro to Bohemian Rhapsody “Queen”. “It’s Alright” is another song that feels like the 90’s that will have you grooving in your kitchen singing into your whisk in your robe with your bonnet.

The song that I need Chanté & Keith Washington to perform at my wedding reception “Candlelight & You” originally appeared on the “House Party 2” soundtrack & was later put on this album, & whoever made that decision THANK YOU! Keith & Chanté were a duo we didn’t know we needed! There was a video online of them singing this last year & let me say, THE MIC’S WERE ON! Baby they sound like they just came from the studio in 1992! That song will always be considered one of my favorite ballads of all time.

The self title track “Precious” is another groove that gave the album that R&B/jazz sound. With Chanté’s soprano vocals running all through that track, it had no choice but to be a vibe. “Finding My Way Back” was another B side that caught my ear. The arrangement of this song reminds me of a jazz club with the chorus giving an island vibe. This is not a normal sound I get from songs but this one had the perfect blend. Honestly, Chanté could sing Juvenile “Back That A** Up” & make it sound classy. The anointing that is on her THROAK is mind blowing because her whistles are still in pristine shape!

This debut for Chanté showed why my good sis is still serving vocals 30 years later with more to come. Let’s not forget how this 55 year old is aging better than a lot of these 30 year old’s, but that’s another conversation. So do yourself a favor & stream this album with a few candles & a bottle of wine, I promise it will put you at ease.
